One of my FAVOURITE festivals Ottawa has to offer is the Tulip fest. I just love the sea of various colours.  And it’s a gamble every year as to when to go and see the tulips.  It has been too hot, too wet, too cold, too windy…and with a few extremely hot days, they can fry up pretty quick.  That is why when we were expecting several hot, sunny days in a row I had better get my butt down there.  Even if I didn’t bring the kids with me.  Which they yelled at me for.  But it was actually nice to crawl around in the dirt without the complaining to move on to the next bunch of flowers.  I was however not the ONLY person there.  For the middle of the day during the week, it was CRAZY CROWDED!!  But that didn’t matter…I managed to capture some of my favourite photos of the tulips to this date. I kind of like the Canada 150 tulip…if you couldn’t tell.

Now booking portraits and events for the summer.  And as always, please find me on Facebook or Twitter.  I look forward to hearing from you!

It’s so hard to believe that 2014 has come and gone already!  I just wanted to take the time to thank all of the wonderful families I was able to spend time with this year.  I appreciate your business…and the fun chats we always seem to have.  I’ve chosen of few of my favourite images from this past year to share with you; and I hope we are able to get together at some point in 2015!  Smile

I was happy to travel out to timbuk-two to meet up with this family.  (Otherwise known as Alexandria.)  It’s always a change to get out of the city.  And being from a smaller town myself, always feels like home to drive through farm-land.

So this little guy, while being KNOWN to be quite happy…definitely made us work for any smile we got!  Some babies are so expressional; and this guy was no exception.  I LOVED his little pout!  And when it was time for a little snooze, I just kept on going.  Nothing looks more peaceful than a sleeping baby. Smile

I absolutely LOVE photographing in my hometown of Brandon, Manitoba.  I mean, I loooooove the Ottawa area…but there is just something different about the prairies.  I love the endless fields and colours you can find.  (If you couldn’t tell!)

So this is my best friend’s sister and her little family.  She called me up a few days before our vacation was ending and asked if I would have time to take some family photos of them.  I’m happy the weather cooperated – because we didn’t have much of a back up plan!  We were taunted by a huge bird (hawk?) the entire time we were out there.  (Angry Bird, perhaps?)  But we survived and managed to capture some real cute photos.  Absolutely LOVE those big blues!!  Open-mouthed smile

I had the opportunity to meet up with Ottawa author Barbara Sibbald a few weeks ago.  She is working on a new book and it’s almost ready to share with the world!  It’s called “Kitchen Chronicles”; and I was told it was a little steamy!  Winking smile

You can read more about her here. I can’t wait to find out what Barbara’s book is all about!! Smile

One of my absolute favourite things about living in Ottawa is visiting the Tulip Festival.  We attempt to go every year.  But it’s so hard to time it to see the tulips at their best.  Either it’s too cold or rainy and those flowers have not fully opened yet.  Or it’s been too hot and sunny and they’re on their way to being fried.  (Which is what occurred this year.)  We did manage to see some beautiful colours though!

As we head into Mother’s Day weekend – I want to wish all moms a very happy day!! Open-mouthed smile

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend!  Ours was quite busy, as we popped down the the Niagara Falls area to be at/in my brother’s wedding.  Here are their engagement photos if you’d like to see.  But seriously, you couldn’t have PLANNED a better day!  (Although these two had actually been planning for the last year…heehee, but you just never know how things will go.)

Everyone was dressed up, my kiddos (ring bearer and flower girl) were adorable, the ceremony was beautiful, we had a fun time with the photos, food was good, and we partied until the wee hours of the morning.  The only thing that wasn’t good was my hair the next day!  (And no you won’t be seeing any pics of that!!)

The bride all dressed up and no where to go.  So she checks in on Facebook.  Smile

just married

You’d think these two just got married or something!

My kiddies in their fancies.  They LOVED the ride in the limo.  Although they both called it a ‘limbo’ ALL day!  Winking smile

The flowers were beau-ti-ful!  I loved the fall colours, and the berries were a nice touch.  (Although I had to keep the kids from trying to eat them!!)

wedding cake

My brother – very much into cars…seemed perfectly fitting for them to have a yellow convertible (just like theirs) upon their cake.  Most importantly, it tasted damn good!!  Open-mouthed smile

Okay, yes I know there are no photos of ME.  But trust me, I looked very nice too.  Winking smile  I want to wish my brother and his wife many happy years together, and have an awesome time on your honeymoon!!

I LOVE wedding photos, but I am not a wedding photographer.  However when a friend of mine asked if I would photograph her VERY intimate wedding and grab a few shots of her and her new hubby (along with their witnesses), I jumped at the opportunity.  These two both have the same quirky sense of humour, so I KNEW the wedding day would be a blast!  Especially when they discussed some of their ideas with me, and the fact that the groom was wearing a plaid shirt and jeans.  The bride just wanted him to look like himself.  (Which I just thought was the sweetest thing ever!) Open-mouthed smile

They had given their family and friends a heads up that they were going to be married – they just didn’t tell anyone WHEN!  The decided day was July 23rd, 2011.  We met at the Rockcliffe Park Pavilion in the morning in hopes that no one else had the idea of getting married at the same time they did.  And aside from a few tourists, we were in the clear!  The ceremony was short and sweet, and then we moved on to take a few fun photos.

I had a great time with these guys.  (They even brought their own props – yay!)  Here’s a few I’d like to share with you of the happy couple. Smile

I have such a weak spot in my heart for dark haired babies, and little Mia was no exception.  She was the cutest darn thing!  But did she LOVE her mama!  She knew right away when mama was holding her; there was no fooling her!  We’d put her down, she’d cry.  Mom would pick her up and instantly she stopped.  She didn’t even need to hold her close to her or cuddle her.  Just her hands on her little body was enough.  I can imagine their household will be a little crazy trying to keep up with the new baby AND her active big brother.  I wish them all the luck in the world!  Smile

As you may tell, I had a REALLY hard time picking just a few to show off.  Introducing sweet little Mia.

I like to call this one “no more pictures, please!”  no more pictures

All of the little flower headbands were from a local business called i love bows.  She makes some really awesome creations.  If your little girl needs some accessories, please give her a shout.  (And tell her I sent you Winking smile)

K Photo and Design is currently booking newborn portraits for the summer months.  (July is going to be one crazy month!)  If you would like to capture your new baby in their first few days, please remember to reserve a spot while you are still pregnant.  It just makes it easier to have planned everything ahead of time.  For more information, or to reserve a session, please contact me at  I look forward to hearing from you!
