A few weeks after her 18th birthday, we had to say goodbye to our first little fur baby.  She was not my cat….I think I was her human.  Hard to imagine, I’ve spent almost half my life with that cranky cat!!  You had to be in her circle of trust though.  (Yes, we recently watched “Meet the Parents”)  Once you were in…you were hers for life.  She was so motherly to us all.  I remember when our son was born, every time he would cry she would come and tell us about it.  Like we couldn’t hear him ourselves!  She just made sure we were aware.  When we were expecting our daughter; Ami would sit on my belly every night.  I think she knew I was pregnant before we did!  And if the kids or I were ever sick?  You could count on her to lay on top of you to offer her healing powers.  She was the BEST napping companion.  There was a time at around 3:00, she would go upstairs to our bedroom and call me for a nap!  I feel she was heartbroken when Lyzzie past away last summer.  Not only did she take care of us, she looked after that cat too.  After we’d go to bed, you would always catch them curled up together on the couch.  So as we start to pack up food/water dishes, cat treats, etc….the house just feels a little bit empty.  It’s weird…every once in a while I still hear that incredibly loud meow.  Like it’s embedded in our walls.

She would always hide under my computer desk waiting for cuddles.   Always a great companion while editing photos.  Ami would either sit on the back of the couch and place her paw on my shoulder.  Or climb into my lap and her paw would go in my shirt.  It’s like she had to have that skin contact.

My daughter painted this amazing portrait of our cat.  I think it looks exactly like her.  I just love it!! And Ami looks impressed too.

As always, please keep up with K Photo and Design on facebook or twitter.  Currently booking for late summer and fall 2017.

One of my FAVOURITE festivals Ottawa has to offer is the Tulip fest. I just love the sea of various colours.  And it’s a gamble every year as to when to go and see the tulips.  It has been too hot, too wet, too cold, too windy…and with a few extremely hot days, they can fry up pretty quick.  That is why when we were expecting several hot, sunny days in a row I had better get my butt down there.  Even if I didn’t bring the kids with me.  Which they yelled at me for.  But it was actually nice to crawl around in the dirt without the complaining to move on to the next bunch of flowers.  I was however not the ONLY person there.  For the middle of the day during the week, it was CRAZY CROWDED!!  But that didn’t matter…I managed to capture some of my favourite photos of the tulips to this date. I kind of like the Canada 150 tulip…if you couldn’t tell.

Always happy to get the call that there is another baby on the way.  I hadn’t seen this family since their baby boy, well….was a baby!  He is definitely full of beans now at 2 years old.  (Hard to believe he was THIS baby!)  He kept himself busy by baking “cookies” with his pot and spatula as Mom and I tried to settle his lil’ sis.  I think she had pretty much decided before I arrived that all she wanted to eat and cuddle all day long. Luckily, in between feedings we managed to snap a few cute photos.  My favourite part has always been capturing and creating the Fingers+Toes collage.  Every single one is unique.  And for this one, I particularly fell in love with the little photo of the back of her neck with this little wispy hairs.  Sooooooo cute!!

Oh…and before I forget, the blanket shown below was made by her 90+ year old Great Grandmother and saved for her before she passed.  Definitely a special heirloom, as she could hardly see as she was finishing it up.  I was told she didn’t even know that there was a baby girl on the way!  She must have had a sixth sense.  It was soooo pretty and dainty.

The weather is getting warmer and I’m beginning to see a lot more green arriving every day.  This is the perfect time to start thinking about outdoor family photos!  Now booking for Spring/Summer of 2017.  And of course, ALWAYS taking newborn bookings.  Drop me a line, we can chat! info@k-photo.ca

Introducing a NEW location you can view K Photo and Design’s artwork.  Baby Snuggles 3D/4D Ultrasound facility gives you the opportunity to see your baby before he/she arrives!  They offer various different packages allowing you to hear your baby’s heartbeat, gender determination, you can even bring home your ultrasound pictures!  I love matching up the ultrasound photos with a baby’s newborn images to see the resemblance.  They also make a pretty nice prop to use for maternity photos.  Just saying. Winking smile

So if you’re thinking of finding out if you are carrying a boy or girl, give Baby Snuggles a call – tell ‘em I sent you!  Smile

Expectant mommies are best photographed at around the 34th-38th week, before you start to feel “too-pregnant”.  You will have a nice round bump by this time depending on if you are on your first, second or even third baby.  And don’t forget to book your newborn session!!  New babies are best photographed within the first week.  They are so teeny and fresh at that point – you don’t want to miss it!  That is why is it best to reserve your spot while you are still pregnant.  Please contact me for more info: info@k-photo.ca  I can’t wait to hear from you!! Nothing I love more than when I see a client is displaying their photos proudly around their home.  As I don’t normally hang out in these families homes in between sessions – I don’t often get to see what they have done with the photos.  Most of the time I will see a nice Fingers+Toes collage.  Or a collection of them showing off ALL the babies.  I might see a larger family photo on display, or a few on a table top.  I always find it interested to see how they have chosen to frame and display the images.  But this is the first time I have seen THIS!!  Apparently the boy in the photo (who is now 2) – thought adding moustaches to his baby photos was HILARIOUS.  Haha!  And I must agree.  So please, feel free to make your photos your own.  Whether it’s how you’ve framed them…or even adding accessories. Winking smile

As always, you can find me on Facebook or Twitter.

I think it’s still cold enough to make a Christmas post today.  And then I will be pretty much caught up too.  Yay!!  So this is the second little one I have photographed for this family.  They definitely have the recipe right for handsome boys.  (I can’t believe this was 3 years ago!) Big brother was definitely comfortable with helping me set up my gear.  And then I was treated to a Thomas video.  It was actually a commercial for some track that had a crash in it.  Every time the train crashed he would laugh.  Haha!  He was definitely a busy little boy – and difficult to get him IN the photos.  But we managed just fine.  His new baby brother did not have a care in the world though.  He was so easy going…and obviously LOVED having his photo taken.  So much so…I had a terrible time narrowing down my faves.  So this is what we got!

Every time I photograph a new baby, I am reminded of how teeny their little features are.  It is so important to capture those moments – as they grow up so darn fast!!  If you are thinking of having newborn photos taken, don’t wait!  It is best to reserve your spot while you are still pregnant.  Send me a message info@k-photo.ca  – I’d love to chat with you!

What a fun family I had the opportunity to photograph late last year.  Baby was a bit fussy, which gave me the opportunity to catch LOTS of baby snuggles.  Even though he was almost 2 months old, he hadn’t lost that new baby smell yet.  And that fuzzy little head?  I couldn’t help but rub it!! (Just a little…Haha!)  Big brother and sister were definitely the helpers we needed.  They were pros at calming and keeping baby entertained.  With both older kids into the hockey scene…it was a must to capture them in their gear.  Which proved to be a challenge to pull that stuff out for two active kids AND keep them quiet so they didn’t wake the baby who had finally dozed off.  But we managed to do it!! Just look at some of the awesome images that came from that day.

While we enjoy a little bit more Winter – keep in mind, it is still a great time to book your family portraits.  Outdoors in the snow is such an awesome backdrop for families and kids.  Or if that’s not your thing – a cozy lifestyle session at home might be more for you.  Either way – please contact me for more info as to how to book your own Winter portrait session.  info@k-photo.ca  As always, you can keep up with what’s happening by following K Photo and Design on Facebook or Twitter.  I look forward to hearing from you!

It’s been so drab the last few weeks – I thought a little colour would be nice.  And what a MASSIVE amount of colour we managed to find this past fall.  Trees were at the point of losing their colour…but this one AMAZING yellow tree hung on just for us.  The girls just loved hiding behind the big leaves.  After a heavy rainfall – the ground was so wet, it definitely kept mom and dad busy trying to keep the kids clean!!  I didn’t do so well myself.  I think I had mud and water up to my knees!  Haha!  But worth it in the end.  I just loved their little ladybug coats.  Can you get any cuter than that? 🙂

Annual mini sessions are a GREAT way to keep your family photos current.  If you would like to be put on the mailing list for the fall of 2017, please let me know!  info@k-photo.ca  I’d love to hear from you!  🙂

One of the things I look forward to every Fall is having the chance to meet up with this family.  Aside from baby photos, I think this is the 5th year we’ve been doing this.  (Just last year!)  The kids ALWAYS keep me on my toes…and the chatter is hilarious!  As you can imagine, working with 3 different, very busy children can be a challenge.  But I am just so happy with this family photo – makes it ALL worth it.  Aren’t they adorable?!?! Open-mouthed smile

Summer.  Seems like it was so long ago.  Anyways…I was very happy to be asked to catch some family photos of these guys when I was back home in Brandon, MB this past year.  I have held off in posting anything, as I knew there were some Christmas gifts in there.  It was a beautiful day – AND everyone managed to find the time to get together.  Which is not always easy with everyone’s activities, work and all that fun stuff.

It is insane how grown up these kids are getting.  I think I have photographed most of them since they were wee babies.  Even the changes from our LAST family photos: (C fam & R fam).  Seriously!  Stop growing!!  Haha!  I loved getting Grandma and Grandpa involved too.  Funny to think that I was having sleepovers in their basement 30 years ago!  They have not changed at all!  (I have, maybe.)  Winking smile  Haha!

Anyways, I had a TERRIBLE time trying to narrow down my favourites…so this is what I have to show you.  Smile
