Outtakes are the best – Kanata children’s photographer

Every year I attempt to take the kids out for some fall photos so we can send them off in our Christmas cards, for gifts and all that fun stuff.  And every year it gets a little more difficult. Unfortunately they usually get left to the last minute when it’s cold, and there are no coloured leaves.  But that’s the way it is.  I was happy with this years bunch though.  But for anyone that thinks that photographers must have a ridiculous amount of awesome photos of their kids….think again.  These outtakes speak for themselves. Runners – Ottawa family photographer

So happy to catch up with these guys again. The kids are getting SO BIG!! Time flies so quickly; it’s not even funny.  So the kids definitely gave us a run for the money.  Because of all the rainy days this fall, this was the first time they had been outside in a few days.  They thought they’d take advantage of this and ran and ran and ran.  Until we finally caught up with them and had them sit for two seconds.  And then they were off again!  I don’t blame them – it was such a beautiful day!!

Home sweet home – Kanata family photographer

This bunch was in the midst of selling their family home…and BEAU-TI-FUL yard.  (Seriously….AMAZING!!!)  But before they could let it go, they asked me to capture some family photos at their favourite place.  Home.  The girls got really into it when I let them have free run of the place and told them to find their favourite spots to photograph.  The swing, the big rock, the favourite tree, the flower bed and trampoline were the highlights.  So happy to be asked to capture these special moments.  Wishing you all the best in your new home!! Fur family – Ottawa photographer

Last month we said goodbye to our dear old kitty.  I must admit, the house seems a little empty without her.  I could always count on her to lay in front of the kitchen cupboards when I was trying to put the dishes away.  She would not get up for anything!! (Well…except treats).  I would slide her across the floor with my foot….and then slide her back to her preferred spot when I was finished.  She was also the only cat I ever knew to purr when we were petting our other cat.  Haha!  She was special…that’s for sure!  Anyways…I have a few photos to share.

90 years young – Ottawa family photographer

I love being asked to join in on a family celebration.  Especially when it’s a 90th BIRTHDAY!  And this crew did not disappoint. The birthday gal was treated to a fancy limo ride to the venue. When the word got out that she was on her way, the family made their way outside to greet her.  Honestly, you could NOT get any cuter than this lovely lady.  She was a tad embarrassed over all the attention, haha!  But managed to make her way through the sea of hugs and kisses on her way in the door.  We quickly stole her away to capture some family photos.  In between takes she was given a glass of wine to celebrate – which she quickly says to me “I never drink wine.”  Haha!  It was not long and we all went inside for some drinks and snacks before the big dinner.  The decor was beautiful!  And that cake…I hope it tasted as good as it looked!  There was a slideshow playing, and handmade place cards set on the table.  Even a letter from the Prime Minister wishing the birthday girl a happy 90th!  What a beautiful day to celebrate this gal’s 90th birthday!! Smile

Frosty – Ottawa family photographer

It was a day that you could definitely see your breath in the air.  But as your kids grow up and spread out a bit…it is always hard to have them all in the same place at the same time.  So we bundled up well and pushed forward to capture some great family moments.  The temperature was slightly different from the last time we all met up.  This would be the first photo session including the dog.  Although, you wouldn’t know…he acted like a real pro!  I’ve collected a few of my favourites to share.  And although it was quite chilly…I’m so glad this family braved the elements for me.  Freezing

Snowshoes and red noses – Ottawa family photographer

Super excited to meet up with these guys again.  ALWAYS a fun time.  Even if it was a tad on the cold side – the snow made for a WONDERFUL backdrop.  Which is really cool (no pun intended), because mom has decided she would like a series of photos for her wall of her and her son.  One for every season.  This Winter collection will be added to the previous Summer and Fall we had taken a few years ago.  Can’t wait to see them again in the Spring! Haha!

Browned leaves – Ottawa family photographer

The leaves had browned.  Most of them fallen.  But we got bundled up and captured some beautiful family photos anyways.  And actually, I feel like it worked in our favour.  The warm browns just matched so nicely with their clothing selections.  It’s like it was planned out that way!  And the hats….you just can’t beat how awesome the kids hats were.  Haha!  Here are some of my faves!!  Smile

Two thousand and fifteen – Ottawa photographer

I can’t believe I am seeing the word January on my calendar.  AND it’s 2016!!  How is that even possible?

I met so many great new families this year…and was able to keep in touch with my fave old ones.  As the kids get bigger, they just get goofier.  (Is that a word?)  All in all, a lot of fun.  I even managed to photograph TWO weddings in 2015.  Which is odd, since I don’t do weddings.  Haha!  I also had two families welcome baby number THREE to the bunch.  Feels pretty darn special to be a part of these growing families.  There’s nothing like that new baby smell.  Or the stories from the older siblings.  I have heard some pretty grand ones this year.  Haha!
