T’is the eve of Christmas eve.  The house is clean…for the moment.  Gifts are wrapped.  Guests are on their way.  And my goal is to not have to enter any sort of shopping establishment for the next few days.  That is my hope anyways!!

One of my favourite things to do in getting ready for the holidays, is a little Christmas crafting.  And the kids just like getting dirty…so it’s a win win!  Haha!

Christmas crafting

It is no secret that I have a small obsession with Bath and Bodyworks.  I seriously get lost in that store just smelling all the new scents.  And the holidays is the WORST for me in trying to pick out what I want my house to smell like.  I went in with ONE item on my list; an air freshener.  I knew which one I wanted and everything.  And then…..I spotted something new.   A light up one!!  And it’s oh so cute!!  Plus, smells pretty nice too. Smile

December is the time for those holiday tunes!  I love listening to the old classics…as well as discovering new ones.  This particular song by Echosmith is my absolute FAVOURITE song this season.  If you have not heard it…please do.  It’s awesome! Winking smile

Christmas music

And of course, it would not be Christmas, without our annual Gingerbread house.  This year was especially difficult for me…as I like to sort of “guide” the kids into how it should be done.  Haha!  But I let them go to it all on their own this year.  My favourite was the “icicle of death” that had to go over the front door.  Mimicking one we had above our own door for a few days this winter.

Gingerbread house

Holiday movies!!  Can’t forget those!!  Although, there are so many good ones, it’s hard to fit them all in!  But one we NEVER miss out on is Merry Christmas Mr. Bean.  It’s still funny EVERY time I watch it.  Every. Single. Time. Smile

MrBean

And….the Christmas baking.  Which I am not very good at, I admit.  But this year I decided to give the kids the job putting together the cookies and dainties for our various get-togethers.  And it seemed to work.  Everything worked on the first try!  That has NEVER happened.  And the smoke alarm was not set off either!!  Haha!  Smile

Christmas treats

Well…it has been such a wonderful year.  Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and I hope to see you in 2015! Smile

Okay, it’s my Happy New Year post!! Better late than never, right?

So I had a GREAT year! I met lots of new people, and was happy to hang out with some old friends too.  I just love seeing the kids grow and families expand.  I was happy to also have my OWN family photos taken this year.  And over the Christmas holiday, finally have them up on my wall to enjoy.

And here are some of my faves of 2013! Happy New Year! Open-mouthed smile

Favourites of 2013

Wishing you all a fabulous 2014!! I hope to keep in touch this year!! Smile

There are so many things I love about this time of year.  Once the gifts are bought/made and under the tree, I feel as though the stress is gone and I can just enjoy.  Well, aside from the guests, cooking and keeping everyone happy and healthy.  Then the holiday is completely stress-free! Winking smile

Just for fun, I thought I’d share a few of my favourite things that I love about the holidays.  So here we go!

1.  I LOVE sitting in the dark beside the glow of the Christmas tree.  There are a few special ornaments and decorations that make me smile each year they come out.  I love my fat Santa!  My hubby bought him for me the first year we were married.  And he his just the cutest! (Santa’s not bad either…haha!)  And then there’s my little cardboard Santa troop.  My first Christmas after I moved from home I didn’t have very many decorations to put on my tree.  So co-worker had given them to me.  They still make me smile.  Even more so now that the kids have taken to placing them ALL ON THE SAME TREE BRANCH!  They know how much that bugs me.  (I’m a bit of a Monica Geller when it comes to my tree decorating!)  But this year I have just decided to….let it go.  Haha!  (But I did turn that side of the tree to the back so I don’t have to see that branch every day.)

Santa

2.  And when it comes to decorating….I like to spice up EVERY room.  And what a better excuse to decorate your bathroom??  My toilet paper tree is a big conversation piece whenever my sons friends are over.  I swear they think his mother is nuts! Open-mouthed smile

3.  And if it looks like Christmas…it might as well smell like it too!!  I admit, I can get lost in Bath and Bodyworks for a good hour or so smelling all the various scents in there.  But I was so happy with their holiday selection this year.  This is one of my favourites.  And while I think I’m a relatively decent cook; and I CAN bake.  When it comes to Christmas baking…I am just no good at it.  I don’t know if it is the added pressure or what.  But I currently have about a 5% success rate at ANY recipe.  So now my house SMELLS like baking!  And all I have to do is wash my hands.

Christmas scents

4.  And if it LOOKS like Christmas, SMELLS like Christmas…it must SOUND like Christmas.  These are a few of my favourite Christmas albums this year.  As well as a multitude of OTHER songs of course.  I usually have a playlist going on the computer of all my favourites.  I have found that I seem to really like the song “Little Drummer Boy”.  It makes me laugh when my shuffle lines them all up and I have various artists singing the SAME SONG over and over.  Haha!

Christmas tunes

5.  I am so happy to have a flexible schedule for this alone.  I LOVE to participate in the school’s craft days!  The little ones made Christmas ornaments and the bigger guys made gingerbread houses.  It’s so neat to see all the kids creativity go wild.

School crafts

6.  CAUGHT YA!  Even kitties get excited about Christmas!  I swear they think I put this stuff out just for them.  So many new toys to play with when they think no one is watching.  If she could read, she’d know that present is NOT for her.  Haha!

7.  And while I am NOT a big fan of COLD.  I do love how pretty the snow is when it’s mild and the flakes are so big and fluffy.  I have been very excited to have had a couple of brave families to run out in the snow for their family photos this year.  I hope to have more opportunities in the new year.  Nothing is prettier than a nice white blanket of snow.  Smile

Well, it will be 2014 before we know it.  I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season…and I can’t wait to hear from you in the New Year!!

I have had my share of dandelion bouquets…or leaves or rocks that seem to find their way home.  But my favourite flower is just a simple white daisy.  My daughter knows this, and points them out WHENEVER she sees them like she’s seen a rock star or something.  Even better when she finds a wild patch and brings one home for me (or two).  Open-mouthed smile

Happy summer everyone!!

I HOPE!!  Very happy to be enjoying some actual Spring-like weather.  I feel as though we have been spoiled the last few years, and now we are unable to handle a normal Spring!  But I’ll take the sunshine!  I was even able to actually get outdoors for a portrait session a few weeks ago; and can’t wait to do more.

One of my favourite things about living in Ottawa is getting to see all the Tulips.  But somehow I just never time it right.  Either I’m too early and they haven’t hardly begun to bloom – or they’re fried in our unusual warm Spring weather.  But this year I almost had it right.  Almost!  Enough for me to capture some nice colourful photos anyways. Smile

Now is the time to start thinking of booking for summer portraits.  Can’t wait to hear from you!  And of course, I wish you all a happy and safe long weekend!! Smile

Well, it’s the day of the eve before Christmas eve.  That’s an important day, right?  I’m happy that I actually began getting prepared for Christmas a little earlier this year and not just SAY I was going to.  Just a few last minute things to do now…so it’s nice not to feel the pressure this time of year can sometimes bring.  I hope you all are able to enjoy this beautiful snow we are receiving right now.  It’s picture perfect!

Just for fun, I thought I would share some favourites of mine this time of year.  (Before I’m forced to get into the kitchen and get ready for tomorrow!)  Winking smile

Snowy trees

And why not begin with this beautiful snowy Christmas we are having in Ottawa!  I find this is rare to have pretty white snow like this.  It’s usually slop on the ground from it being so mild.  But this I love!  I’ve been joking with my daughter all week, asking her “who shook the snow globe?”  And so she runs and grabs her snow globe and shakes it up some more.  And would you know it…it would start snowing harder!  She thought she was actually controlling the snow!  It was so funny!

Christmas music

And of course, you MUST have good Christmas music!  I find we always listen to the same favourites around here.  The kids LOVE the Barenaked Ladies Christmas album.  But this is a new one I discovered this year, and I LOVE it.  If you recognize that gal, it’s Zooey Deschanel.  And her voice is just a beautiful as it was in “Elf”.  Highly recommend this one. Winking smile

Gingerbread house

And we have our annual Gingerbread house creation.  I love as the kids are getting older they have definite ideas as to how it should be done…and I my control is quickly being lost.  And seriously, all mom is asking for is a NICE PICTURE of my kids with their Gingerbread House.  AND……this is what I get!  Haha.  What are ya gonna do?  And please note the new addition this year.  My son decided we absolutely needed a chimney.

Gingerbread men

Christmas would not be complete without some sort of disaster coming out of my kitchen.  This was a new recipe for Gingerbread men, AND I had never made them before.  (We usually stick to sugar cookies.)  I’m always up for a challenge though…and to my surprise – they were VERY good!

Flamingo Christmas

And of course, I LOVE my Christmas tree!  Although the decorations are moved around on a daily basis…never sure where I will find them!  Anyone who has heard of me speak about my daughter, you will know she is a really flamingo nut.  We of course HAVE to have a flamingo ornament on the tree.  (Which isn’t as hard as you’d think with Grandparents that spend time in Florida over the winter. )

Well…I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL holiday!  Stay safe and healthy and enjoy each other!!  Smile

One of my absolute favourite things about living in Ottawa is visiting the Tulip Festival.  We attempt to go every year.  But it’s so hard to time it to see the tulips at their best.  Either it’s too cold or rainy and those flowers have not fully opened yet.  Or it’s been too hot and sunny and they’re on their way to being fried.  (Which is what occurred this year.)  We did manage to see some beautiful colours though!

As we head into Mother’s Day weekend – I want to wish all moms a very happy day!! Open-mouthed smile

Two completely unrelated things.  But as it worked out, they both occured today!  And it’s not EVERY day that I have another photographer feature me on their blog.  So I guess today would be one of those odd days.  Lee-Ann of “Ginger Snaps!” did a little Q&A with me if you would like to take a look.  Plus I was able to show off some of beautiful baby and family photos.  Winking smile

I quite enjoyed our little taste of summer today.  But as I was digging around in my garden I remembered I hadn’t posted any photos from the Tulip festival this year.  Which is one of my favourite events of the year, and one of the reasons why I love Ottawa so much.  Each year it’s getting a little bit harder to convince my son to go down to see the flowers though.  He’s a true boy; why in the world would he want to see FLOWERS?  Until he smelled the Beaver Tails that is.  Then he was on a mission to find where that sweet smell was coming from.  My daughter on the other hand, LOVED all the flowers.  She liked the pink ones, the purple ones, the red ones and even the white ones.  And when she saw the yellow ones she was so excited to show me, because well, yellow is MY favourite colour!  Because of conflicting schedules and the crappy weather, we didn’t get down to see the tulips until it was almost too late.  Some of them were pretty well done, but others still made a pretty picture.  Smile

All that being said, I am itching to get outside in this nice weather!  (With my camera of course.)  If you are thinking of setting up a family portrait this summer, don’t delay!  The summer months tend to book up quickly.  Please contact me today (info@k-photo.ca) so we can chat.  Enjoy the beautiful week ahead!!  Open-mouthed smile

I was getting my little one’s (Am I still allowed to say that?  She’s going to be 3!!) birthday invites ready to send out and came across these cuties I had to share.  Most little girls have a little teddy bear or doll they’ve become attached to.  But this gal LOVES flamingos!  And I ask, do YOU think I can find ANY flamingo…anything in this part of the continent?!?!  Luckily she has her 2 best buddies; Mango and Splits.  (Although sometimes Mango’s nickname is Fla.  And one one of them is a boy, but I’m still confused as to which one.)  When asked what she wanted for her birthday, she says “a flamingo cake, a rainbow one!”  Which I’m not surprised, she has quite the sweet tooth!  I’ve spent some time trying to design her cake over the last few weeks, and I’m NOT a cake decorator by any means, but it’s a lot of fun to pretend I am.  So wish me luck!!  Open-mouthed smile
