I have come to realize you can never predict how your children will act in any certain situation. I certainly have realized that my kids will surprise me day in and day out.  So when this new mom contacted me to photograph her baby girl she was quite concerned when I told her that for some of the poses we would attempt, it’s best if baby was sleeping. She informs me that her child doesn’t sleep.  Haha! And I’m sure that’s how ALL new moms feel.  Seriously! Anyways, I have learned to just go with the flow.  If baby was awake…we just go from there.  So I show up and she’s JUST fallen asleep.  I set up and get straight to work…not wanting to waste any precious time.  WELL! I swear this has only happened ONCE in the 5 years I have been doing this.  That sweet little girl slept from the minute I arrived until well after I left.  At one point we actually TRIED to wake her up because we thought this was getting ridiculous!  Haha! But nope…she did NOT wish to show us her (I’m assuming) beautiful eyes.  Sleepy smile

By the way…I am SUCH a name girl.  I love hearing new names parents are giving their children and recycled old ones.  The stories behind their choices and all that fun stuff.  Anyways, I just fell in love with her name Ella.  And it suits her so well! Smile

I am now booking portrait sessions into the Spring…and hoping for some nice weather to go with it!! But there is still time to do outdoor winter family portraits.  When we get a break from this cold snap!!  Please contact me for more details.

I have to admit, I was a tad scared to work with these girls.  Mom and Dad were nervous because their newborn portrait session did not go very well with their first child.  (I think at this point they were anticipating the worst…heehee.)  And as I walked in the door, Mom mentions that her oldest daughter does not like having her photo taken, oh – and doesn’t like new people either!  I was pretty sure that this would be an interesting day.

But seriously, I don’t know if this session could have gone ANY better.  Big sister was smiling for the photos and LOVED holding her new baby sister.  (That one is always a gamble when working with a toddler and a new baby.)  How adorable are they?!?!  And THEN, little miss newbie was a rockstar!  Once she had a full belly, she was willing to snuggle up to anything.  Which worked well for me.  All in all, I’d give this family an A+!! Yawn

(I think they were worried for nothing!! Winking smile)

There are a few things that will make for a successful newborn session.  Make sure you have a full baby.  Keep the room nice and toasty warm.  Have LOTS of patience.  And go with the flow.  If you’d like to talk about K Photo and Design photographing your new baby, please contact me while you are still pregnant.  I look forward to hearing from you!! As you can guess, this little cutie was NOT all that interested in snoozing.  Even though I showed up right at naptime…and she was fed on MULITIPLE occasions.  She just did not want to settle down.  She was nearing the 3 week mark, I’m thinking she may have hit a little growth spurt.  As all she seemed to want to do was eat!  I did get some really cute and funny expressions out of her; and just look at those beautiful eyes!!

I just LOVE this image.  We had this gals all curled up for a nice photo and she just spread her arms and legs out like a little starfish.  And then she looked soooo relaxed.  Too cute!!  Red heart
