I didn’t come up with it, but I read it somewhere and thought just how true it is!

In the days of film, I would walk in to my local photo lab with a 24 exposure roll of film and walk away with about 20 photos to put into my albums.  I’d get reprints done and send them away to my family so they could enjoy pictures of my son as well.  And now with everything going digital, I love being able to easily email or update my facebook with current pictures.  But I still print them out and put them into albums.  For many reasons: Peace of mind.  It’s just an extra back up. I would NEVER want to lose my memories to some stupid technology-fail.  Secondly, I like to see everything as it happens in order.  Not having to search through folders and folders of file numbers on my computer.  I also like to scrapbook, so its fun tell a little story that way.

But any really special photos I try to print up a little bigger and frame them.  Something that you can see every day and enjoy.  I know as consumers we were taught that if you want something for your photo album – order a 4×6.  If you want to put it in a frame on your desk – you will need a 5×7.  And if you want something bigger for your wall – you order an 8×10.  But in truth, you need to measure your wall space and make sure you are ordering the appropriate size – or it will just look silly.  Trust me.  If you are doing a grouping of photos, order a couple smaller ones.  But if you are looking for a big focal point of your home, measure and fill the space!  You’ll thank me later. Winking smile

wall artThis has been something I have wanted to do for YEARS now. I needed a wall portrait of my kids larger than the portrait of my cat. It was time. I love this image – but love it MORE as a 24×36 on my wall. So don’t be afraid to take the plunge and put something big on display. If you have an image you love – just do it! Open-mouthed smile  All of my wall portraits 11×14 and larger are mounted and laminated – all ready to be framed and enjoyed!

(Ha ha!  My poor cat thought I was taking HER photo!  Just look at her posing for me…heehee.)

Announcing the arrival of a baby girl who came just in time for the holidays.  At such a busy time of year, it was nice to just hang out with that sweet little thing and capture how small they start out.  And man…just check out her little pucker – sooo cute!!  Red heart

Big sister was so funny.  She was not too sure about me at all.  I had to do a mini-session with her train before she would come and sit for me.  But totally worth it.  She was such a cutie – and had GREAT stories to tell!  (I always enjoy a little entertainment Winking smile )

This one was just an after thought as I was getting ready to get packed up.  But I just loved how comfy and peaceful baby looked in Mom’s arms.  And again with that little pucker!  I just love it!!  Open-mouthed smile

This little peanut was just 7 days old.  Newborns are best photographed before they are 10 days old, therefore recommended to set something up before baby arrives.  I am now booking until Summer 2012.  Look forward to hearing from you!

It’s not very often that I get a call from a new Grandma to set up a baby portrait session.  But that’s what happened to me a few weeks ago.  Her little Grandson had arrived, and she was determined to get some nice photos in amongst all the holiday craziness.  And I’m so glad it worked out!  Open-mouthed smile  This little guy was already 3 weeks old, so he was becoming more alert every day.  But we did manage to tire him out to get some nice dreamy baby shots.

I just love the energy and love of first time parents (and GRANDPARENTS).  They were all fighting to hold him.  Even the dog wanted in on the action!  It was quite funny actually.  But I had a great time; and some super cute photos to show for it!  Smile

I’m getting a little behind in my postings because of the holidays.  But things are beginning to look normal around here – I hope!

So I met up with this family a week before Christmas.  The little newbie was 3 weeks old; and his big brother and sister just adored him.  I’m amazed he slept through some of the “love” they were giving him!  Brother and sister were so funny.  I even had them perform a little concert for me while Mom was feeding the little one.  I tried to pick a few images to show off, and then I had to weed them down again.  I just had too many faves!!  So here’s what I decided on.  Smile

Happy New Year everyone!!  What a year this has been for me!  I’ve had the opportunity to photograph many expanding bellies, lots of wee babes and a pile of families.  You can now view my work at quite a few places around the city.  3D Miracles ultrasound clinic, Ottawa Integrative Health Clinic, Hands on Health massage therapy, and now at FAB Baby Gear!  (You can also purchase newborn packages directly through them AND the packages are on their baby registry.)

Okay, I have to share some favourites from 2011!!  Open-mouthed smile

With Christmas only a few days away, I thought it might be fun to just share a few of my favourite things about the holidays.  Or perhaps it’s an excuse to avoid all the cleaning I SHOULD be doing.  All I can say, is thank goodness I am finished my shopping!!

Every year I get so excited for Christmas tree day.  Which usually turns out to be an all day decorating event.  I think that it’s awesome that we have an Incredible Hulk ornament on our tree.  And my little mouse on the roll of 35mm film (a classic).  And I love that all the Santa’s MUST go on the same branch.  (They do it to mess with me, I know it!)  And of course, my favourite are the hand-made ones that come home from school.  Red heartOrnaments

But to get into the Christmas spirit – I MUST have some good Christmas music playing!  Every year we start off our Christmas tree decorating by throwing on Kenny & Dolly’s “Once upon a Christmas”.  I listened to it every Christmas as a kid; and was so happy to find it on CD a few years ago.  Oh, and we can’t forget about great Christmas movies!  We watch the same ones almost every year.  But there are some that are definitely more favourites than others.  The kids of course love Elf, but my all time FAVOURITE is the Family Stone.  I don’t know if there could be a more perfect movie.  SmileChristmas movie and music

Perhaps I like the holidays to have the excuse to decorate things that I wouldn’t normally decorate. (Or maybe I just feel like I can get away with it better!) Open-mouthed smiletoilet paper tree

I also love my home-made stockings. The cats stockings are my favourites. Heehee. I think the kids almost are more excited about what Santa put in the cats stockings than their own!! Stockings

I love doing Christmas activities with the kids.  This year we painted ornaments (so much fun!) and constructed a little Gingerbread masterpiece.  They TOTALLY try to mess with me by putting two jellybeans of the same colour beside each other!!  Winking smileGingerbread house

It has to SMELL like Christmas too!  I admit, I LOVE Bath and Body Works.  I can spend hours in that store picking out the perfect scent.  And I settled on Mistletoe Kiss.  It’s a very fresh Christmassy smell. Holiday scents

I’ll admit it – I’m NOT much of a baker.  I’m in awe of people who whip up these amazing little treats for the holidays.  I usually end up having to make two batches because the first one messed up in some way.  Or giving up completely!  But I DO like to decorate.  This year I managed to make THREE different things, without messing any of them up.  Yay me!  I think the problem is that I’m always up for trying something new, and maybe I should stick to the tried and tested ones.  Heehee.  We’ve got decorated sugar cookies and reindeer peanut butter cookies.  (If you’re counting, I also made a peanut butter marshmallow treat (or dainties as my family always called them) – but the photo didn’t look very appetizing. Winking smile)  I had some great testers too!Christmas treats

And any excuse to put up coloured lights all over the house is good for me!  I just love the glow of our tree. SmileChristmas lights

Seems like Christmas will be here before you know it – and then over in the blink of an eye.  Take the time to enjoy it!  I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!!  I’m excited to see what 2012 brings!!  Open-mouthed smile

I was so excited to meet up with this family again.  It had been a while since we’ve gotten together.  QUITE a while.  (Their little girl was just a wee newborn back then; as you can see here.)

She’s much bigger now, and LOADS of energy!  I have no idea how her parents keep up to her.  She is sooo cute, and so much fun!  This little family of three will be a family of four in the new year; as a baby boy is on the way!  I can’t wait to meet him!!  Smile

I had SO much fun with this little guy!  He constantly had his hands doing something.  At one point it looked like he was talking on the phone, then he relaxed them beside his face and he looked so peaceful.  I even managed to catch him playing a little air guitar!  This kid was crazy!  But very content, and he let me play with him until he was tired…and then he let us know he was done.  Smile
