Every new and pregnant mother needs to visit Lorraine at Maternity Essentials.  She offers amazing products and classes.  And you can see her at the upcoming Baby Show on September 28th and 29th, 2013.  She is one of the many speakers you may see there.  Her talk is “Can’t Wait for Baby: Understanding Labour Induction”.  I hope you are able to get to the Baby Show, and if not…please visit her at Maternity Essentials at 250 Greenbank Road.  You can tell her I sent you!  And you just may spot some of my artwork on her walls while you’re there. Winking smile

I first met this little guy strapped into a bucket seat at a friends baptism…and was SO happy to have a chance to hang out with him again.  Although there was no chance of holding this kid down now! He was walkin’, runnin’ and just plain movin’!!  A bit of a serious guy for me at first…but I just KNEW he had some smiles in there.  And did he ever!!  Open-mouthed smile

The best news is when a previous client calls to tell me they are expecting a new baby.  Not only is that ALWAYS good news…but it gives me an excuse to check in on the little ones and see how they’ve grown.  As you can see, big sister has changed a wee bit.  What was difficult was that I had to wait even LONGER to meet this little lady, as they all managed to get sick right as she came home.  Soooo….Spring quickly became Summer.  And here we are!  At this point she was able to flash me the cutest little smiles.  I just loved her little grins.  Open-mouthed smile

I was feeling a little sad as this gal’s one year portrait session was nearing.  Because I knew it would be the end of this series we were working on.  Until I found out that she was waiting for her baby brother to arrive!!

While she is getting bigger and learning so many new things as the months have gone on…her little personality has not changed.  She is so smiley smiley…and then serious in the blink of an eye.  Literally!!  Here she is at 4 months and 6 months.  I know I have said it more than once, but I have absolutely fallen in love with those big dark eyes.  Happy birthday sweet little girl!!  Now you’re ready to take on the world!   Smile

You’d think as a photographer that you would have a million and one photos of your own kids.  Well, that’s somewhat true.  But to actually get those nice classic “portraits”, takes a little effort.  I attempt to take the kiddies out at least once a year, although it is getting more and more difficult.  I found this beautiful patch of purple flowers and just KNEW I had to take my gal there.  Funny enough, my son – who HATES having his photo taken…was a tad jealous of this situation.  So I made sure to find an EQUALLY cool place to take him for his own portraits.  And well…I’m VERY excited to share the results – because it just love ‘em to death! Happy summer everyone!! Open-mouthed smile

I have had my share of dandelion bouquets…or leaves or rocks that seem to find their way home.  But my favourite flower is just a simple white daisy.  My daughter knows this, and points them out WHENEVER she sees them like she’s seen a rock star or something.  Even better when she finds a wild patch and brings one home for me (or two).  Open-mouthed smile

I HOPE!!  Very happy to be enjoying some actual Spring-like weather.  I feel as though we have been spoiled the last few years, and now we are unable to handle a normal Spring!  But I’ll take the sunshine!  I was even able to actually get outdoors for a portrait session a few weeks ago; and can’t wait to do more.

One of my favourite things about living in Ottawa is getting to see all the Tulips.  But somehow I just never time it right.  Either I’m too early and they haven’t hardly begun to bloom – or they’re fried in our unusual warm Spring weather.  But this year I almost had it right.  Almost!  Enough for me to capture some nice colourful photos anyways. Smile

Now is the time to start thinking of booking for summer portraits.  Can’t wait to hear from you!  And of course, I wish you all a happy and safe long weekend!! Smile

I have to admit, I was a tad scared to work with these girls.  Mom and Dad were nervous because their newborn portrait session did not go very well with their first child.  (I think at this point they were anticipating the worst…heehee.)  And as I walked in the door, Mom mentions that her oldest daughter does not like having her photo taken, oh – and doesn’t like new people either!  I was pretty sure that this would be an interesting day.

But seriously, I don’t know if this session could have gone ANY better.  Big sister was smiling for the photos and LOVED holding her new baby sister.  (That one is always a gamble when working with a toddler and a new baby.)  How adorable are they?!?!  And THEN, little miss newbie was a rockstar!  Once she had a full belly, she was willing to snuggle up to anything.  Which worked well for me.  All in all, I’d give this family an A+!! There are a few things that will make for a successful newborn session.  Make sure you have a full baby.  Keep the room nice and toasty warm.  Have LOTS of patience.  And go with the flow.  If you’d like to talk about K Photo and Design photographing your new baby, please contact me while you are still pregnant.  I look forward to hearing from you!!
